Friday

We spent this snowy Friday afternoon bringing some spring into our classroom!  We made colorful flowers to replace the snowflakes hanging from our classroom ceiling.  At least it looks like spring inside!!

In folders this afternoon there are 2 permission forms for April.  One is to see the 4th grade dress rehearsal at the high school on the day of the show and the second is to visit the Baker Free Library.  Both of these trips are FREE!  Please sign and return the pink papers as soon as possible!

Thank You

This week...

Officer Mike Carpenter from the Bow Police came to our classroom this morning to discuss our lockdown procedures.  The students asked great questions and learned a lot!

This week in math, we continue to talk about the < and > symbols.

In reading, we are starting to learn words that have vowel teams ('ai' in rain, or 'ay' in say.)  We are also learning about NOUNS this week.  Nouns are words that name a person, place, or thing!

Trip Around the World

TRIP AROUND THE WORLD

First grade classes are traveling around the world beginning in the middle of March!  We are looking for family members who can act as a “tour guide” and lead a lesson to enrich our first graders by sharing a cultural activity from a country of your choice (favorite vacation, study abroad, family heritage, etc.).
The successful share would include but is not limited to:
-a short introduction (10 minutes)may include any of the following: finding the country on a map, language, climate, culture, and other important ideas.  Visuals are highly encouraged and could include books, PowerPoints with 5 or less slides, photographs, or artifacts.
- an interactive activity for first graders to learn in a hands-on way (approx. 20 minutes).  This could include:  sampling food, playing a traditional game, learning a cultural dance or song, dressing up in traditional clothing, creating an arts and crafts project, sharing a holiday tradition or an idea of your choice.
*Please keep in mind that first graders have short attention spans and learn best through movement.   First graders like to be part of the action!*

If you are able to help, please email me at aturley@bownet.org.
